screen blacking out on loading windows 2000
Heres the problem: I am running a pc with windows 2000, viper v770, nvidia tnt2 (driver 1999). I was installing Shrek2 game and one of the options was to load directx 9, which I did (I had ver 8). When the computer restarted it got almost all the way through loading up windows when the screen went black and stayed that way. One thing led to another and I updated the v770 driver (at least I think I did) and the screen still becomes black just before computer finishes booting up (after it turns black I can still hear the audio finishing loading windows). I uninstalled Shrek2 and it is still black, even after hard boot. I am now totally frustrated and don't know what to do. Can you help me?

try booting into safe mode options ... F8 after BIOS POST
then:
Boot the computer (via F8) to "Enable VGA Mode".
you may be prompted there to make changes to settings or else:
Go to Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs.
- Find your video driver package & uninstall
While in Control Panel, go to System, Hardware
Device Manager. Expand (Click +) besides Video
-Any devices listed, Right Click, Choose Uninstall
Reboot the Machine - It will re-detect your video card
Re-install the drivers
Go back to Device Manager and change your monitor
definition to the correct vendor/model.
