Cleaning junk out of a Windows 98 PC
My brother recently acquired a computer which has Windows 98 installed on it. I'm not too familiar with PC machines since I'm a Mac person. The last time I used a computer that had DOS or Windows was 10 years ago in college.
I checked the C: drive and there's about 890 MB of data on the hard drive and about 110 MB of free disc space.
The person my brother got the computer from said that his kids played a lot of online games and stuff on the machine and filled it up with a lot of junk. The problem is, I can't find the junk in order to delete it so I can run other applications which demand a certain amount of free disc space on the machine.
Is it possible there's a lot of hidden files or directories on the machine that came from online gaming?
I've thought about reformatting the drive and reinstalling Windows 98 once we get the discs, but there's some programs on there I want to keep like Microsoft Word and Microsoft Office programs but I don't have a way to back them up since we can't afford to go out an buy a new external hard drive or removeable media. And we don't have the discs for them either; the programs came with the machine.
So what do I do, short of reformatting the C: drive?
