Good morning group,

I have a problem. I am trying to find a way to salvage the information on my computer.

The computer I used for my business is running Windows 2000. I closed the business last year and since a few people had the password for it, I changed the password.

I have recently come to require information on the computer, but I forgot what I had changed it to.

I kind of remember the User name was Peter, but it may have been something else (like Peter_Main, Mainserver, Peter Office, Etc.)

Is there anyway to find out what the user name is? That would at least narrow it down so when I enter the password, I can get on.

When I boot it up now, it comes up Administrator. I have tried different user names as well as administrator and all the different password I usually use.

On the Microsoft Help, it says it can't be accessed, but you can reload the software.

I have tried to do this, but when I put WINDOWS 2000 Professional disc in the cd drive, it doesn't run. If I put ut in and reboot, it still doesn't pick it up.

I have also tried to upgrade to XP Home, with the same results.

I also don't know if reloading the software or upgrading will overwrite the information already on the disk?

If I removed the drive and put it in another computer, would I be able to access the programs?

If anyone can help, I would greatly appreciate it.

The default Administrator password is <return> ie 'no password'. Few people change this account.

btw If that fails, there are ways to hack the system but I don't think this forum would appreciate such tips being broadcast.
