IE Errors
occasionally, and sometimes frequently, IE will pop up a window saying it has encountered problems and must be closed....then offers to either "send error report" or "don't send". I have automatic updates turned on, so I should be current with Microshaft....what gives?
AXP 2200+
2 x 512Mb crucial pc2700
radeon 9000 128Mb
...don't know what other info might be needed.....??
-
Try this:
Start IE
<Tools><Internet Options>
<Advanced> tab
Select the <Disable Script Debugging> check box (in the 'Browsing' section)
Click OK - reboot your system
Let us know if it helps?
-
tyvm for the reply, but when I got to where you sent me....it was already checked.....was I supposed to un-check it?
I've been piddling around with ad-aware and spybot since this has been happening.....they helped clean a bunch of junk out of my system.....but IE still has hiccups.....I just downloaded Registry Mechanic and ran it....havent been on my rig much since I got that done to see if it helped tho.......any thoughts on Reg. mechanic??
-
IE does that with me from time to time, have you got IE6 and SP1 installed?
Reg mechanic killed my OS once (freeware version though) and I've never used it again - I prefer XTEQ.
You could post a HJT log on here?
Also if you add toolbars to IE and other gimmicks, eventually sods law dictates somethings gonna fall over and take IE with it, or possibly IE trips up another app and they both fall in a heap of bits.... analogy ending.
-
Yes I have IE6 SP1 installed......the reg mechanic I got is fully functional....not the trial version. So far there haven't been any errors from anything Reg. Mechanic did.
XTEQ...? is that X-setup? if so I have that also....been a long time since I went through it's paces.
Next question....what is a HJT log?
As far as toolbar add-ons....I don't like em and if one installs itself, I kank it ASAP.
For the most part, IE likes to crash if I have 2-3 windows open....but sometimes it'll do it with only one.
One other thing....once in a great while, my pc will just reboot w/out any error pop-ups or warning....?!?!?
-
... Foxed me smashing. Suggest send the error log and let MS sort it out, in the fullness of time.
X-Setup yeh - there's an option to open 16 bit apps in a new window (or something similiar?). Then when IE folds, it doesn't take the rest of the OS down with it.... but sounds like you don't have this problem.
RE: re-boot - You haven't overclocked anything have you?
HJT - It's Hi-Jack This - creates a log that the experts on here can peruse through to see if any malware/Trojans etc are making a system unstable.
-
OK....I downloaded HJT and generated a log file.....as I was reading through it, I couldn't see anything in particular that stuck out as potentially intrusive, other than a couple traces maybe of toolbars that had tried to install...anywho...here's the log file....

Erkie,
It doesn't appear to be there in its entirety but you've definitely got a bit of "WindUpdates" nastiness in there. Run HiJackThis again and get it to fix this line:
O16 - DPF: {15AD4789-CDB4-47E1-A9DA-992EE8E6BAD6} - http://public.windupdates.com/get_f...048e 710a78631
Then go into the Program Files folder and make sure there isn't a WindUpdates sub-folder. If there is, delete it (you might need to go into Safe Mode to get it to delete).
Reboot.
Let us know if that helps with your problems. If it doesn't, run another HiJackThis log and post the updated one for us to have another look through.

I think I had already found and deleted WindUpdates before I got your reply...but, here's another log file for ya to check out anyway...sorry for takin' so long to get back....been pretty hectic these days....:/~

These lines don't seem to be doing anything to help. And if they aren't helping, then the only thing they can be doing is making your system more unstable than if they weren't there!
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {aeadfbda-d185-42c6-bd73-49bb9c404e12} - (no file)
O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {31119b84-2bea-46b8-9e3a-716f2e1a623d} - (no file)
Run HiJackThis and select those lines to be fixed.
I've also heard that some download managers (such as Download Accelerator Plus, which I used to use, and GetRight, which you are running) can cause stability problems etc. I had to remove DAP as part of the solution to get rid of some big problems on my system - I would recommend that you uninstall GetRight - you can always put it back on later if it makes no difference.
Reboot after removing it and then run HiJackThis as soon as your system starts up again. You should find that the following lines have disappeared - if they haven't, get HiJackThis to zap 'em.
C:\Program Files\GetRight\GETRIGHT.EXE
C:\Program Files\GetRight\GETRIGHT.EXE
