Explorer Illegal Op on connection to net.

    Hi

I wonder if anyone can help me. At the moment i am working on another computer as my computer comes up with an ilegal operation when i connect to the internet. If i hit close it will stay connected but will soon popup with the error message again. If i just drag the message to the bottom of the window it allows me to use the internet as normal with the exception of secure websites i.e hotmail.

Is there anyway at all in getting this fixed? I will be back on my computer again tomorrow so i will post again then.

    Thanks

    Jamie

Could you please advise us what the full error message says, e.g. "IExplore.exe caused an illegal operation in Wininet.dll" ?

Could you also please let us know which web browser you are trying to connect with and whether you are using a dial-up modem (56k) or broadband / ADSL? Windows 98 comes as standard with Internet Explorer 4 and Windows 98 SE shipped with Internet Explorer 5. However, most people have upgraded their systems to Internet Explorer 6 or 6 SP1.

Thanks - shouldn't be too hard to fix

    Hi

i dont have the full error at the moment as i will not be home until tonight, but as soon as i get home i will post it. I am using AOL Broadband and i surf using either aol or IE 6. The error is not comming from IE, it is comming up with Explorer has performed an illegal operation.

Hope this helps in the meantime. Thanks for getting back to me.

    Cheers

Oh no - it's not AOL 9.0 is it?! Have you checked your free system resources (right-click My Computer, select the last tab on the right and it will give you a 'free system resources' amount as a percentage).

Your PC might have been infected with the W32.Blitzdung@mm worm - see this article for more info: http://securityresponse.symantec.com...tzdung@mm.html

I'm really struggling to find out what ES.DLL is. The best I've come up with in the last 15 minutes is this from Microsoft.com:

    File Name es.dll
    File Version 1998.9.1003.0
    File Description COM+ EventSystem Library

Doesn't tell us very much though. Anyone else out there got any ideas?

    hi

    yeah its aol 9.0

I have done a virus check but nothing found, not sure if it will be a worm. I just re-installed windows, but still comming up with the error. I can still surf the web but it just wont do anything in regards to security e.g hotmail.
