when my computer loads to the win98 startup screen it just restarts, i can't get any further.
it all happened from my computer freezing in windows, i had to restart, and this happens.
is there anything i can do to fix this in safe mode?
would a total format of my computer fix this? if so how do i do this?

Yes a FORMAT would fix most things, and I'm 99% sure it would solve this too.

My best guess is that a driver loaded at boot time is screwing up - Graphics would be my favourite guess.

Are you aware that a FORMAT will wipe all programs files pictures songs birthdays and recipes from your PC?

Why not try:

Uninstall your graphics drivers, sound drivers, unplug all bits that are not essential, then see if your PC boots ok - OK so the colours will be naff to start with. But then add each item in turn and see when the error recurrs - if it ever does come back?

Can you boot your system in safe mode? That may tell us a lot...
