    maxtor ex.hard drive 80gb

i have a xtrnl hard drive that was working fine until i clicked to remove the icon saying ok to remove or shut down. my question is how do i get the (f) drive back. it says can't find the file. i'm getting a 1101 error. the hard drive is a maxtor one touch.

Assuming that your external drive uses a USB connection, unplug it and then reboot the PC. Once you've logged into Windows 2000, plug the drive back into the USB socket. In theory, Windows should think about it for a few seconds whilst it loads the drive up again and you should then find that your F: drive has re-appeared in Windows Explorer

i did that and it re-installed the retrospect icon on my task bar. it now can be opened in (f) drive. but as someone else said its looking for the location of the file.

You're totally confusing me Loader04! Are you talking about your backup problem? Are you discussing the same problem in two different message threads in this forum?!

It sounds to me like this problem (i.e. you cannot see your F: drive) is now resolved and we should close this thread. We can then continue working on your other thread in the 'Windows 2000 Issues' section of the forum to try and help you sort out the backup problem. Is that OK?

hello loader04 to save a lot of confusion can you please just have a look at all of the threads that you have started and just see if they are all connected which both dj and myself think they are we can then close down the irrelevent ones and give consise information to the problem in hand in one thread as apposed to having to put the info on two or three threads
    thanks
