welcome to d-a-l the online computer help forum

do you mean that you can not boot your pc at all

or that it will not load win 98 properly

The BIOS checksum is a code number that the BIOS (low level hardware identification system built into the motherboard) keeps a record of. When something goes wrong and it loses its settings or the settings become corrupted or they cannot be understood by the BIOS, then you get a checksum error.

Switch on your PC and go into the BIOS (press the key to enter 'BIOS setup' which will be displayed on your screen as soon as the display switches on). If you have changed some hardware inside the PC just before you got this error, then check the BIOS screens that relate to that hardware, e.g. processor, memory, etc. If you have not changed any hardware, then there has been a fault in your BIOS and the only general advice that we can give is to use the 'Reset to Factory Defaults' or 'Load fail-safe defaults' option. Save the changes to the BIOS, exit and reboot.

Let us know if that helps
