    how do i delete a file on my desktop that keeps saying access denied when i trying to get rid it says it may be write protected

    right click on the file and go to 'properties'. Check whether the tick box labelled Write Protect (or similar) is checked. If so uncheck it and try to delete the file.

    Also, check to see if there's a "lock file" on the desktop, a temporary file with a funny name (or the same name as the file you're trying to delete) that you didn't put there. It is a common problem to get this kind of error message when you're trying to delete Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, Access databases, etc. that didn't close down properly. In this case, opening the file and saving it again before closing it and deleting it often resolves the problem.
