    Smile I/O Error on Start-up...

I had difficulty closing a PC down to DOS to perform a format so I went into the BIOS to see if any of the settings were preventing me to do so. I must have changed a setting I shoudn't have and I am now getting an I/O Error at startup. This error seems to be preventing the PC from detecting the Modem. Can you tell me what I may have changed to cause this error and how I might fix it. The PC is a P3 450 running Win98. Any help will be appreciated... Thank you...
