    Everest Vs My Bios!

At the moment I have 256MB pc2700 of RAM and I want to add another 512MB pc2700 to my Comp, and I was just wondering, when I use Everest to get my system details, it says that my rams speed is 166MHz but my system BIOS says it's frequency is 333MHz, which one do I believe?
    Cheers

Erm, both actually! Your memory speed is 166MHz but your motherboard doubles this up to run the Front Side Bus (FSB) at 333MHz. I think.

That's how come you can also run "old" 133MHz SDRAM in an Athlon system with a 266MHz FSB.

Okay, first of what is a front side bus? and is my memory running as fast as it can? Thanks

Yes, I think your memory is running as fast as it should be.

I can't really explain very well what a FSB is I'm afraid. All I know is that it's the main thing that affects the performance of the motherboard - all other things being equal, a faster FSB will allow the processor to run faster, the memory to run faster and, potentially, the PCI slots to run faster I think. It's a bit like saying a 2.0litre car is faster than a 1600 - there are various factors that can make a difference but the rating of the FSB (just like the size of an engine) is the main thing that will make a difference.
