Hi there, I just rebuilt a computer with an ASRock K7NF2-RAID Motherboard, nvidia GeForce 6200 512MB DDR2 Video Card, 3 GB PNY RAM, a used AMD Athlon XP 3200+ and an 80 GB IDE HDD.
Just finished putting it all together and when I turn on the power, nothing shows up on the screen. Everything is properly connected. Does anyone have any ideas?
Hi and welcome to D-A-L.
A common problem is not being 200% sure you installed case standoffs ONLY where there is a corresponding motherboard mounting hole. Note that cases are designed to support 1000s of motherboards of various sizes so they typically have many more mounting points than motherboard have mounting holes. So I recommend you pull the board and verify.
If you do have extra standoffs then if lucky, no permanent damage. But in some cases, the resulting "short circuit" can cause permanent damage to the board and/or anything connected to it.
I note that is a pretty old motherboard so I assume it was used too. Are you sure the motherboard and CPU are good? Are you sure the PSU is good?
Hi, thanks.
The motherboard that I replaced is the same full size ATX board, so I'm sure there's no standoffs where there's not a hole. Also it is a refurbished motherboard so it should be okay. I couldn't find any other one that still had the Socket A. I was mixing and matching different parts and I had it showing something on the screen with my older WinFast GeForce Video Card. Although when I hit enter to install the OS (WinBorg XP) the whole computer crashed, powered off and all. I also did replace the PSU with another one that I was using with another system. I just ordered a new case (w/ a PSU) so if it doesn't work in a better case, I might just return everything. (the screw hole for securing the AGP video card wasn't lining up properly when it was inserted)
If it is the exact same model number from the exact same maker, then you can be sure. Other wise you need to verify. The ATX standard only says where a standoff can be, not where it will be.The motherboard that I replaced is the same full size ATX board, so I'm sure there's no standoffs where there's not a hole
