The title pretty much says it all....
Can I replace the DVD rom (which doesn't burn CD's) in one Emachine PC with the CD rom (which DOES burn CD's) from my other Emachine? The two machines are not the same model.

Is there a way to make the current DVD rom burn CD's?

Well, first, let's get some termonology set right. ROM means "read only" memory. So if you really have read only drives, then you cannot write (burn) anything.

As far as installing the CD drive, as long as you have the necessary drivers for that drive, you should be able to install it.

Optical drives (except for BluRays) don't cost very much on NewEgg. I recently had to replace one of my drives & it cost me about $40 usd for a dvd burner.
