Question Emachines T3604 CPU Upgrade ( More Info Inside )

Hello there back again. Thanks to the user who helped me upgrade my video card A looooong time ago. Now I need to upgrade my CPU.

    Socket 775 - LGA
    Mobo Model - D945GCL

This is the only information that I think will be useful. ( Tell me if I need to get any other information, and maybe tell me how to get it )

    What I'm looking for?

Something Dual Core 3.00GHz. As the CPU Seems to be the only thing I need to upgrade on a bunch of games that I have been interested in. Already upgrade the RAM and Video Card.

Thanks in advanced. This website ROCKS!

That appears to be an Intel supplied board so see here. But I would send a note to eMachines tech support and see what they say too.

Whats Intel going out of buisness? So far searched up like 6 CPUs and it says unavailable for Tiger Direct and New egg ON ALL OF THEM! I refuse to buy a new computer... Is this there way of saying buy a new computer?

    UPDATE

Just checked out some more and yea unavalable... Whats going on? Can someone find me a 3.00GHz or better ( Trying to keep it under a 100 the lower price and best processor the better ) Like my EVGA Video Card was 60$ But it can run all the games so it was a good buy.

Anyways yea could someone find me one?

The Intel® Desktop Board D945GCL supports a single Intel processor in an LGA775 socket. See the link and the tables below for a complete list of supported processors.
Errr what exactly does that mean? OH I think I just figured it out I just wasn't aware ANY computer had more then one CPU. It does mean that right? But like it matter its like Intel has stopped making processors for my computer. I need help finding one from a site that still has them.

    New Egg Socket 775

I don't know if you're confused about a certain aspect of that table but only a certain version (or higher) of your board's bios will recognize those CPUs. If it isn't the right version then your bios will have to be upgraded which I would not recommend.

Not at all. The problem is, you have an eMachines computer and they contracted with Intel to make that board for them. That is an "OEM" board and as such, that specific model is only available through eMachines (or perhaps Gateway, their sister company, or Acer, their parent company).

I don't get a lot of this stuff. So sorry if I'm coming off as someone who knows what the hell they are doing. I thought the only thing that played into "Can your computer use this CPU" was the socket. Kind of like with RAM its just what type of ram can your computer use. So yea I'm confused at the table. I thought it was just.

Your computer will run everything below. And that's it.
Of course that's not the case but I still don't get it.

I'm sorry that I wasn't very clear. Although you must match sockets that isn't the only factor in the equation because the cpu is a bit more complicated than ram. In fact it is one of the most complicated components in a typical PC. Basically your computer has to know what it is & be programmed on how to use it. If a cpu was released significantly after your computer was built it might not know how to use it. Thats why you need to find out your BIOS version and compare it to that chart. If you hit the pause button just after you turn on your computer if it gives you information (instead of just showing a logo) it might show the BIOS version number. I can't tell you where or when it says it. If you can't figure it out perhaps you can take it to someone who can help.

Now if your bios isn't recent enough to handle a processor then the only way to allow your computer to use the processor would be to do a bios upgrade which I wouldn't recommend because if the upgrade went wrong, depending upon how wrong, you might not be able to use your computer computer again. The use of a newer more powerful processor to me wouldn't be worth the risk of ruining a motherboard and yes people have ruined their motherboards when doing bios upgrades.

Why would doing something as simple as upgrading a bios ruin a motherboard? All the bios has are settings for your computer. So I don't really get how it could ruin your whole computer.....
