Re: Emachines T3604 CPU Upgrade ( More Info Inside )

I have looked at your "helpful" links which mean nothing to me what so ever, if I can't figure out my Bios version it means nothing. I have looked at them all. Stop saying "Have you even....." because I have. Until I have a definite this is your bios version. Your links don't do anything for me. I have looked at everything all of you have posted but it doesn't help me. Still grateful for the effort just need someone to tell me my BIOS version.

Like you said a bios upgrade is risky. Why do it if I don't even know for sure my BIOS version?

Sorry but I'm not finding anything about what that version message means.

What did eMachines tech support say?

I'm supposed to ask a company how to upgrade my CPU, the same company that voids your warranty when you open your computer. Not that mines still under warranty I just think they would be like "You shouldn't open your computer for any reason". Or something like that.

Either way my computer doesn't have the Serial number thing.

WOW what a bunch of *****. I hope emachines goes out of business the way I was treated. Contact a local technician and ask them. Then they ended the chat.

perhaps it is best for you to leave it be. Do you really have to have a new processor?

No! I never suggested that. Your concern was which CPUs your motherboard supported. I suggested you contact eMachines for that information, not about how to upgrade.

As for opening your case voiding that warranty - that is not true. They can put stickers on the cases warning of that, but they cannot void your warranty if you open the case. You have the right to add more RAM, a graphics card, or another drive if you want, and you have the responsibility to keep the interior clean. Now if you damage something in the process, then you void the warranty. Those stickers are only valid when there are no "user serviceable" parts inside. So for example, you cannot open a power supply since there is nothing in there a user needs to service, replace, or upgrade.

The exception to those stickers is if, and only if eMachines did all the required maintenance (cleaning) for free, and all the labor for any upgrades for free. And note this is not just a US law. The United Nations Commission on International Trade Laws have made this pretty much universal, at least among member countries.

Now you can be unhappy and wish bad fortunes on eMachines all you want. I am not suggesting they don't deserve it. But understand you really cannot buy a more "entry-level" computer than an eMachines computer. If you want a computer with all the bells and whistles, good tech support and nearly unlimited upgrade capability, you don't buy the cheapest computer on the market. Or you build your own.

Note that eMachines was bought out by Gateway computers and Gateway was bought out by Acer.

That you shouldn't get a new processor? You need to be clearer when asking a question.
