    Adding a CPU

I have an american megatrends motherboard with an AMD Athalon processor already on the board... I have come into posession of a standalone pentium 3 processor, complete with pan that plugs directly into the brown expansion (similar to where i would plug a new soundcard graphic card, etc) slot at the left side of my processor location...

Could I add this pentium alonside my original cpu and if so what would happen?

    would my cpu speed increase?
would it override my existing cpu?
    would my pc croak it?

also if it is possible, the pentium has its own fan built on... would i need to remove the fan from my existing cpu?

    many thanks

No you can't do this. Similar don't cut it. The PIII must be plugged into a slot designed for the PIII CPU, not into slots for expansion cards. And the PIII must be used on motherboards designed to support Intel PIIIs - not AMD Athlons.

I am quite certain if you tried to force that card into the slot, you would break the slot or the card or both. And if you did manage to force it in, something would fry as soon as you applied power.

Considering the above, the rest of your questions are moot.

I do actually have the slot on my pc just to the left of my existing cpu... ik guess i just worded it the wrong way.... its similar to an expansion slot in looks but goes vertical rather than horizontal
the original pc it came from had it that way and i just really wondered if it was possible considering i have the exact same slot
thanks for answering anyways dude, your always my knight in shining armour lol

It does not matter that you have a slot. Door knobs have keyholes too, but that does not mean you can put any key in it, even if it fits, and expect it to work. The mere fact you said that motherboard has an AMD CPU now is a clear indication you cannot install an Intel CPU on it.

Knight in shining armour? Don't know about that, but thanks just the same.
