    Add-on hard disk installation snag

I bought a refurbished Maxtor 20GB hard drive on the cheap from ebay and I'm experiencing a strange situation. Note that this will be an add-on drive and NOT main drive C!

I've added hard drives to PCs a time or two before and I didn't encounter this particular problem. It's probably a very simple solution. The disk gets detected and installed just fine. Windows XP Device Managrer recognizes its name (Maxtor), model number (ST020H2) and capacity. I know it's not ready for service because the seller says it's been wiped clean. I just need to reformat it of course. But the only way I know how to do that is by right-clicking it in the "My Computer" listing. But this disk fails to show up there, for some reason!

So my question is: how else can I do a reformat? or can't I? Maybe this device is incompatible with Windows, but that is very very hard for me to accept. Any help appreciated, thank you!

Okay never mind. I got it worked out. It's under Computer Management>>Storage>>Disk Management. The new drive is listed there; I right-click and select "Initialize"; then I right-click and select "New Partition", where a wizard guides you the rest of the way.

    Sorry to pester y'all!

I should quit running here so summarily, arghh!
