    Post Buying a Quad-Qore Processor

    Hello DAL,

I'm going to be upgrading from a dual qore to a quad core processor. I don't know how much I'm planning on spending, all depends on what is required and what meets my budget. How can I tell which processors are compatible with my system?

Also, I have a Intel Pentinum 4 3.46ghz, what Ghz of a quad core processor would match the performance I'm getting out of my current processor. That way I can tell what kind of Ghz I'm looking to get out of the quad core processor I'm looking for? Sorry if that was a brain buster

    D-A-L Computer Hardware Scan Results

(I was having problems getting the hardware scan to work-I would click run, and it wouldn't do anything-I tried multiple times. Turns out when I chose to save the file to launch the Java application. It worked. Just for future reference)

    Thanks
    3iz,

According to here there is no dual core support. However I couldn't find out the socket number. if you download and install CPU-Z and find out the socket number I'll be able to tell you for sure.

    Thanks for replying,

Say I do Task manager>right click a listing>select affinity. It lists All processors, CPU1, CPU2. So.....
    somewhat confused.

I will do CPU-Z and brb.

LGA 775 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

It looks like that socket does support a pentium dual core, a core 2 dual or quad core so I don't know why that page said that there isn't any support. CPU-Z says that you only have a single core. That page has the listed supported processors. Newegg is still selling some of those processors here including some quad-cores. I don't know how to answer the rest of your questions though. I guess just decide on what you want to spend and find the fastest processor for that price. For that socket the cheapest quad core is $150 usd. Maybe someone else can give you a better answer.

    I see what your saying,

Well it does have hyper threading, maybe that has something to do with the 1 & 2 CPU's? My goal was to use dual monitors. Hit up some games on one and run firefox on another. I can but its maxing out and somewhat laggy.

    As for upgrading,

I'm not going to change motherboards for better performance. It'd be smarter to build a custom PC which isn't in my near, well even distant future. Maybe add two Gigs of ram or something. How do I know what ram is compatible with my system?

It should say in your manual. if not, what does the memory section of cpu-z say? It could be graphics but it looks to me like you have a fairly decent graphics card. I'm afraid that I don't know what to tell you. I was hoping someone else would say something.
