Exclamation Need help modding a Dell Dimension XPS Gen4

    Navy"]Hello DAL reps,

I'm going to be modding my Dell Dimension XPS Gen4 very soon and I'm getting a list together for the supplies I will need.I can't post specs because I'm a noob, sorry due to forum rules o_O. I'm going to add a new grapihcs card (PCI), 2 GB of ram, Water cooling for my processor and some case modding.

About my graphics card, its doesn't support pixel shader 3.0. I noticed most of the new games require it. Whats the cheapest card I can find the supports 3.0 and would run the game (say Arma II or NFS Undercover) smoothly. I would like the get something from Nvidia. And I would like it to look good???

I don't know much about RAM, what brand would you suggest for my system and how do I know if my mother board is compatible for 2 more GB's of RAM? It has 4 slots (0 & 1 slots are currently being used) but ya never know :P

Any suggestion on exactly what type of water cooling unit I should go with? Somethin quite. I've watched some reviews and the quite is ugly and the loud is kickass looking so if you know by experience I'd appreciate it.

About my case modding. But the pieces broke to my door, But im going to add a attachment to the door and case so it can swing down towards the floor. I want to add a skeleton's skull to the door and have the water cooling's tube's running through each side the its head and doing some fancy weaving in and out of my case using the tubes. Then put the neons insode so whens I got music going it will light up the fluid in the tubes making the skeltons eyes glow. I will do this by attaching the skull with Scotch weld, probably DP 190 and use some short strand fiberglass. Paint it black with some primer and a couple coats of a glossy black or a really dark navy blue. It should be really pretty by the time I'm done. I hoping by Sept. 15th, NFS SHIFT's release date.

Also about the neons, in thiis video says my GEN4 has customizeable, lol, front neon(s). I bought this PC used and I don't have any type of software on my PC that will do that. Or that I'm aware of. I checked DELL's website and they only accept contact if you still have a warranty. So if you guys know of any software that would do that it would save a butt load of $$$ and trouble. =D

So any help or comments would be great, Thx 4 your time Oddl3all

I was also thinking about not water cooling cuz i don't need it and to save a couple bucks and just running the tube+fluid and pluging them off.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

The motherboard supports up to 4GB of ram if it is the same computer as the one I'm looking at here

Dell Dimension XPS Gen 4 for Home (Pentium 4 3.20GHz, 512MB, 80GB) Desktop reviews - CNET Reviews

and here are the RAM you can look at while I search for the motherboard details.

    2x2GB DDR2 Ram

    thx 4 ur reply,

I'm somewhat confused here. By 2x2 meaning i have to by a 4 GB RAM piece. See I have two 1 GB RAM pieces already in a my white "0&1" slots. Can I add two more 1 GB into each of my black slots on my motherboard?
