    Socket 478 still available?

    PEOPLE!!
My pc was a pentium 4 at 3.00ghz, with 1.5gb ddr ram. The motherboard completely broke, so i tried booting my xp hard drive on another motherboard but it failed, something to do with mobo drivers not being the same?
ANYWAY, because my P4 and ram are really good still and it ran VERY fast, are there any mobos still being made that are socket 478, and take dual channel DDR ram ?!?! if not, are there places you can get good second hand ones!?
I don't really want to have to get a whole new mobo/cpu/ram when i have perfectly good working ones

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

    Sam

Welcome Sam. The P4 has long since been discontinued. To my surprise I did find a few on newegg or you can try a private seller on ebay or amazon. However today's processors are much faster than the P4 so if you have to replace you motherboard you if it is in your budget you might want to upgrade your computer to a more modern one.

Windows freaks out when you connect a hard drive to a different motherboard than the one you had when you installed windows so if you replace a motherboard you have to reinstall XP. If you where using an install of XP that came from a manufacturer then you can only use that set of disks with the computer that it came with. Unless something is wrong with this other MB you should be able to reinstall XP and use it provided that you use an installation disk that doesn't not come from a manufacturer. I hope this helps.
