    Cool --AlienFX lighting confusion--

So we meet a gain, mooo ha ha ha, just kiddin'

I recently traded for a used Dell XPS GEN3.

I came across some kickass videos about AlienFX lighting, it allows you to customize the display lighting of the keyboard/tower etc.. I have a pretty big lighting display in the front, and clear cut-outs on the sides with LED's. They said it worked for certain models of Alienware and Dell XPS's. The CD is supposed to come with at purchase, but since I traded.........I tried to google for the software, AlienFX Lighting, but I had no success.

I was wondering if you knew if my model was compatible, if so, where do I get the software?

If not, is there a program that could do so?
    Thx, dnk

That function appears to require both hardware and software. The hardware is case hardware which would be a pre-requisite to any software. I see this brief description:

If you don't have one in your case, you're not likely to find one. Alienware/Dell are the only company that make those, and they don't sell the parts. They're only installed in the new predator 2 case.

If you have the part, it's a small component mounted on the bottom floor of the case. There should be a small pcb in it. If it's the normal Alienice, there will be a small sliding positional switch so you can change all the lights to different colors. If you have AlienFX, it's a different card that's controlled by software.
However the Gen 3 has this alternative for colors:

Introducing the New Dimension XPS Gen 3 System

The XPS Gen 3 system, housed in a Venice blue chassis with midnight gray and brushed silver accents, also sports some attractive new visual design changes. The Dell badge and shield glow bright blue on the front of the chassis and this color can be selected in the BIOS setup from seven color options.
