I think theres something wrong with this picture..

This is a pic of my celeron 1.6 ghz..... Does this look correct..?

Today i purchased from someone.. a 2.93ghz Pentium 4 ( yes my motherboard is capable)
He Also Gave me the on board fan with it.

I put the pentium 4 on with the fan and the computer turns on then turns off without question 10-20 secconds later. ( my guess overheating ) But why!? It shouldnt do that...
Do i have to do something, change a setting? Before putting the P4 In?

And i'm just a few minutes away from smashing it all to pieces.

You won't have to smash it as it will be melted.

Forget about the P4 for a moment and talk about the Celeron above.

    Yes something is wrong there.

Did you use thermal compound? Did you properly install the heatsink?

I have absolutely no more thermal stuff. But its still on my old celeron

My heatsink randomly started making this horrible purring noise after 1 month when i bought it. But it has been working for i guess 6 months now...

Ever since i put the p4 on today just to test things out everything went out of control.

I'm gonna try the onboard heatsink for the P4 on my celeron now... lets see if theres any difference... If i dont reply.. something melted ):

Anytime you change heatsinks you need to clean the old thermal compound and reapply fresh compound.

That explains alot... i was being deet... and took the thermal stuff off my celeron and put it on my.. oh geeze.. Both of my heat sinks are producing the same amount.. If i properly apply some thermal stuff once i buy it, will it dramatically reduce the heat?

    I would think so.

You might compare it to running your car without oil.

Lmao. Car with no oil x)
One last question for now. Did i do any damage to my P4? Since it automatically turned off after 10-25 secconds due to overheating...

Most motherboards have a heat cut off sensor. That is what shut it down.

If it worked as designed it prevented damage.
