I have a software that can downclock my CPU speed to save power. Do you have power saving modes on in your computer? I've not used the built in xp (or vista) power saving modes so I'm not sure if they do that.

If that's the case, it's possible that your computer downclocked your processor which would result in the conflicting speed records.

    Hi ecoli 23...

The D-A-L scan is not giving us the RAM speed so I cannot say for sure that the RAM you linked to is correct but just doing a quick Google search on your Toshiba Tecra M1 shows that it does look correct...PC-2100 266MHz
    - Toshiba Tecra M1 Memory at Outlet Prices -- Buy Toshiba Tecra M1
    - Tecra M1 Memory - Upgrade Toshiba M1 Tecra Laptop Memory

But with checking Crucial's site it says that your Laptop takes PC-2700 333MHz
Computer memory upgrades for Toshiba Tecra M1 Series Laptop/Notebook from Crucial.com

You could also run Crucial's Memory Scanner => Memory upgrades from Crucial.com - About Crucial:Media Toolbox

Kingston's site says your Laptop can take both speeds...
Kingston Technology Company - Kingston Memory Search - Search Results for:

You can use the link to Belarc advisor in kaistar's or my signature or from Belarc Advisor and see what you have now. I'm going to be assuming that you are going to be buying 2 - 1.0GB Memory sticks to replace the 2 - 512MB that you presently have installed. If your going to keep one of the 512MB and just add 1.0 GB then make sure you match the speed as if you mix the speeds then the RAM will only run at 266MHz.

As far as your HDD I would say that the one you linked to is OK as the specs on your present HDD says that it's ATA-6 compliant.

Oh! One more thing...I noticed the D-A-L scan says your running 2 AV's...
    Security Software
    • Anti-Virus
      1. AVG Anti-Virus Free 8.0 (AVG Technologies)
      2. Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition 10.1.5.5000 (Symantec Corporation)
Are both AV's active? If so I would recommend uninstalling one. Runing 2 Av's is actually counter productive as...
    - Your PC is actually less secure as they will conflict with each other
    - You may expierience your PC slowing down as each takes resources to run

Take a look at all the Google hits on this subject...

    Hi...
will ata-6 hd work in this laptop?
Yes, as per my Post #5, the present HDD in your Toshiba Laptop, a MK4026GAX, uses an ATA-6 interface so the first HDD you linked to in Post #1 and the other HDD you linked to in the post above should be fine.
