upgrade help
ok im no idiot but i need to be helped. all the shops i call try to sell me stuff but i only need advice...
ok i have a presario 6000 (exact model:Compaq Presario 6024US Desktop PC)and i have ordered 2 stix of ram (totaling 2 gigs)
my question is can i upgrade my cpu from 1.8 ghz to a 3.0ghz with out messing with my chipset and w/o having to mess with anything else.
and if so what kinda chip and socket should i look for? since i know you will ask...heres my dal scan results:

With the FSB specs I doubt you're going to get close to 3.0 GHz but you might be able to upgrade a bit.
However as of yet I cannot even ID the socket type.
Try CPU_Z and post back the log.

Also what RAM did you get?
You need to be careful on compatibility as that board has very old specs: DDR 200

well as for the ram...i went to crucial.com and put in "presario 6000 and it told me what ram to get....and i got kingston...ummm pc 2700 ddr333?1GB, 184-pin DIMM, DDR PC2700 upgrades for Compaq Presario 6000 Series (Pentium 4 processors). Desktop/PC, CT523988 from Crucial.com
as for the cpu id...what info you want as i cant copy and paste it...
