Re: Can't boot new base unit pc - No OS

    A6VMX series:
    Foxconn A6VMX socket AM2+ motherboard - Misco.co.uk

I'll have to check the bios again,i'm sure it's set to boot from cd first, then hdd, it also see's the numbers,eg 3200 blah blah, for the 320gb hdd,so the pc appears to see both the hdd and the cdrw.

When i get the "reboot and select proper boot device and press a key",

pressing the famous 'any key just brings the same line up,so if i press 'any',3 times, i get this:

"reboot and select proper boot device and press a key"

"reboot and select proper boot device and press a key"

"reboot and select proper boot device and press a key" !!!

    Foxconn - Support - Downloads

There appears to be just a single RAID driver.

I will download the manual and verify.

Often a BIOS will just assume CD/DVD drives.

Anyway if you cannot boot check the cabling. Does the power light on the drive flash when you start?

Assuming your CD/DVD drive is IDE then there is a setting you need to change as seen here:

    Integrated Peripherals Menu

    5.2 OnChip SATA Type
Use this item to select onboard SATA type. Selecting “Native IDE”, the system
will only support SATA devices. Selecting “Legance IDE”, the system will support
    SATA and IDE devices.
The default value is “Native IDE”.

    Thanks for the info guys.
Dobhar, I might try that fab link idea later,as i've no burnable cd's at the mo.

Ok,now i've hooked the new tower to spare monitor etc so i can work on it as well as being on the 'net on this old dog lol:

The power light doesn't flash,it just stays on,until i hold and it shuts down.
In the BIOS it's set to boot 1. CD/DVD 2. SATA blahblah3200 oh and 3. Floppy,i enabled it just in case i decide to hook a floppy drive in.
I've copied some drivers onto a floppy from the cd in the new mobo box, RAID Win2K_XP ??
All the cables look ok.On the HDD there's no jumpers, it says SATA doesn't need them.

Are you confirming the DVD/CD is IDE?

Just by the way although SATA has no Master/slave jumper as it is on a single channel it does have a jumper to switch between SATA I and SATA II.

Your board is SATA II which is default so nothing to do here.

That setting is in the BIOS:

    Integrated Peripherals

    OnChip SATA Type

Just to verify: the power light on the DVD drive comes on and stays on?

If so there is a problem with this drive.

Also just to test your CD try and boot it in your other computer.

If it boots then just hit cancel and remove it. Just to test that the CD is not corrupted.
