Greetings, I recently purchased Unreal Tournament 3. However my videocard is not supported. I am including information in hopes of it being accurate enough so someone can let me know whether I can purchase/upgrade another videocard, or whether it is an onboard videocard.

Yes you can upgrade your video card. Really you don't currently have a video card but a graphics chip built into your motherboard. For an upgrade look for a PCI-express video card. There are tons of them out there.

I couldn't find much information on your computer model, and the ones that I did find stated different motherboard models (I'm not good at reading the system info you posted, couldn't find motherboard make and model) but perhaps you can try clicking on the two links in my signature the Crucial Memory Experts link and Belarc Advisor.

They can do a scan and inform you of what options you have. It is by no means perfect, but a good place to start when lost.

Also if recommended settings r ATI x1300+ video card......how can i tell what are better ones out there which i assume would also work?

Assuming that it s a pci express connection, would a 'XFX GeForce 9600 GSO Video Card - 768MB DDR2, PCI Express 2.0, Dual Link DVI, SLI Ready' be better than the ATI one?

And as for power supply, I know that may be a problem, the video card says wh it needs in terms of power...however do i have that substract that which is already drawing power from power supply to get the end number which the vid card would get? im a lil confused here but do not want to pay a tech buy at best buy to simply pick out one and install it since i know installing it id be able to do.....

Your options (based on your hardware) are PCI & PCI express but go with PCI-e because they are better & because they are more prevalent. I don't know what to advise you in terms of model because that has to do with price budget & usage. Look for DRR 3 or 4, at least 256 mb or ram, but don't go for SLI unless you are looking for building a custom computer in the relatively short future. This is because, to take advantage of SLI, you have to have 2 PCI-e cards. As far as I can tell you only have 1 PCI-e slot and most of the manufactured computers don't have motherboards with more thatn one PCI-e slot. Use of SLA is more for high end systems. Also look for PCI-e x16 cards or PCI-e 2.0 x16 cards. Graphic cards aren't my specialty.

Well, I brough my tower into a store yesterday. Took off the cover and told the guy I was wanting to upgrade my vid card. He looked at it and said that essentially I would not be upgrading it, I would be simply swapping it, and that the new one would not be any better than the one I currently have. The guy said that my comp would not take PCIe cards....that my comp was built inbetween the time where pcie would fit in it...... i dunno....

Does this sound right? Im thinking of trying to get a second opinion....maybe bringing it to another store.....When I called Compaq and spoke to a woman about it she said that I would be able to upgrade the vid card so I dont know why the conflicting information....

From my research I believe that you have a PCI express card. You also have the drivers installed for a pci express card. If you can put a picture of your motherboard on the site I might be able to tell. Make it a close up of the slots. Can you take it to a name brand business such as circuit city or best buy? Just don't let them talk you into buying one there because you won't have near the selection as an online store (such as newegg) & you will pay more. From what I can tell your graphics is built into the motherboard & graphic cards are usually better than built in graphics. So unless you are currently using a graohics card in a pci express you'll probably get far better performance by getting a card. So do you currently have a card that you're currently using? Even if you are you can still upgrade & get a better performing card. I can help you better if you can take a picture of your card slots.

One other thing that you can do is to download & install PC Wizard, run it, & when it has fully loaded click on video on the left hand side. On the pane on the top click on video card & take a screen shot [by pressing on control & print screen at the same time]. Now open up MS paint, paste the screen shot by hitting control v. A picture of the PC wizard show now show up. Save the file & upload it onto this site. This will also help me help you. Be sure to save the screen shot as a jpeg.
