Hi Guys,
could some one answer a simple question for me, please. I am going to install a brand new Seagate Hard drive in my pc. Does it need to be formatted first, or is it already formatted to except the system [ Vista ] I am putting on it. I do not want to make a hash of the instalation, if I can help it.

yes you need to format, after you put it in as slave hd. you cant use it yet and will not be able to see it on "My Computer"
After you installed it right click on my computer ---> manage ---> disk management ---> choose the right one and right click format,

DONT FORMAT THE SYSTEM. IF YOU DO IT ALL THE DATA ON YOUR PC WILL BE GONE.

it sounds like you want to instal vista from scratch?? and use it as a primary hd? if so, the Vista installation thing on the disc will format the hard drive for oyu

and my sincere apologies for not replying sooner. Yes, it is a brand new seagate Barracuda coming from Seagate them selfs. I just thought it will need formatting before I install the system on it. It will be the Primary. I will probably put Win XP on it. If all goes well, I will get back to you to let you know, OK.
