    Internal or External DVD REWRITTER

Have a Dell Dimenssion 4700 running XP with 2.5 GB ram and am considering fitting a dvd rewritter (Samsung). I have the external model unopened but I am thinking of returning same for the internal model .

This is to avoid the seperate power supply and other cable for a neater job.
However I also have an Dell Inspiron 1720 Laptop with Vista Premium

Would it be better to stay with the external model and use it on both systems. Price is not the issue. Lionela

What is the purpose of the drive?

Can we assume both the tower and laptop have their own internal DVD drives?

If we can assume that then leave it external.

Yes they both have combo drives. But having tried to copy a particular dvd lately I discovered that I needed a dual layer model to copy to larger than 4.7gb. I have the urge to fit this myself and have gleened a host of encouragement in the past few day's from familiarizing myself with the inards of the desktop. So I will give it a bash and get an internal job to do it. It's not rocket science and perhaps I may get more satisfaction going that road.

Thanks for your note on this area.
