Western Digital Launches a Storage Beast

Western Digital has packed an enterprise-class 10,000-RPM 2.5-inch drive into a 3.5-inch form factor, in what it hopes is the ultimate enthusiast hard drive.

The company claims that the new VelociRaptor drives, available in 300GB configurations, offer about 30 percent more performance than the previous generation. The $299.99 drives will be available through WD and at selected resellers in mid-May. The drives will also be included in select Alienware configurations later this month.
