    Any advice on this build?

    Hey guys,

After a long time of failing with my old ASUS board (2 RMAs and now they didn't send back cables and the on board sound card, that I had returned), I decided to give up with them and go with EVGA.

I'm asking here for any advice that anyone might have for both a new motherboard and new memory (since my old memory isn't compatible with any of the 780i/790i/750i/680i boards.

Here is what I have already:
    OLD MOTHERBOARD

    RAM

    VIDEO CARD

    CASE

    PSU

    PROCESSOR
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115028

The next motherboard I am looking at getting is a 780i board from EVGA:

And the memory I am thinking about grabbing is 4gigs worth of:

Also, as a side note, all those first components (minus the motherboard) worked on an ASUS P5K, however I would kind of want to remain open to being able to use SLI if/when I purchase another video card.

Any input at all would be greatly appreciated, also any advice on whether its worth it to sink more money into new memory/motherboard, or to just suck it up and get the P5K would be great too.

    Thanks

That EVGA looks like a nice board. I have been using their 680i for the past year.

They have a forum that might interest you in seeing other users issues and ideas:

    http://evga.com/forums/

Every chipset has a dedicated forum.

At the moment I can't think of anything to add.

As you note the EVGA board will offer future upgrading that the P5K would not.

Does the ASUS work now or haven't you tried it?

No, the ASUS P5N board does not work at the moment, I also dont have the audio card (That came with it) or the two gray cables with input bars on them (I forget what they are called at the moment UPPE or something)

Yeah, I saw that forums earlier and posted something both in the 780i, and general hardware sections. Slow moving forum though so I decided I would ask here also.

Thanks for your input, I think I'm going to wait another day for more input across both forums and then order them.

Also, I was wondering if you had any idea as to whether I would have to erase my hard drive, For my P5N board when the DIMM slots weren't ready right, it did work in spurts and I ended up setting up my BIOS and getting a few of the motherboard utilities up and running (such as ASUS PC-PROBE), and I was wondering if all the sudden putting in a new mobo from a new mfg would cause any problems with the hard drive reading from the old one.

Not sure if I am following this correctly but if you are asking if you need to reinstall Windows the answer is yes.

If you are referring to something that runs in the BIOS I am not sure but reformatting the drive is probably a good idea.

It was actually both of those, thanks for the help.
