    right ok i'll try get some from somwhere in the mean time its ok to still use the PC?? and overclocking the fan speed will that in anyway damage the card or anything

    No do not use the PC. You could damage the CPU.

    Do not try any overclocking until you have a stable system with an operating system installed.

    Also just to note those 8800's have their own exhaust enclosures which are the same thing as a PCI cooler.

    Also verify that you have the proper power connections to the card.

    It would be either two 6 pin lines and or one 8 pin plus the 6 pin depending on the model.


    I also note that the difference between a XFX 8800 GTX and a XFX 8800 GTX XXX is that the latter was "factory overclocked".

    An 8800 GTX runs 60c stock so I'd imagine an overclocked version would run @ 70c. However as it is a factory setting the card should work as delivered.

    If problems persist either underclock it or try the other card. See if both cards produce the same results or issues.

    Thanks jephree, for point to my sticky on thermal interface materials (TIM) for this thread as I see now I need to add something about the need for TIM between heatsinks and other devices besides the CPU - such as the GPU and maybe the chipset. I will edit that shortly.
