computer wont reconize 2nd hard drive

I have a computer that "crashed", it got stuck in a rebooting loop and wouldn't load to windows. I am trying to install it into another computer but it only displays the recover portion of that hard drive. I have set it to be the slave drive and still cannot find it on the computer. I would like to retrieve the information on that dreive, but am not sure how to do that if I cannot get it to be recongized on this other computer.

    Thanks Steve

Hi schindsm and welcome to D-A-L

Is the other drive set as master?
is it recognised in the BIOS?

the other drive is set as master and I have tried to look at the BIOS, but I would have to admit i'm not sure what I'm looking at....could you tell me how to do that again...I have entered the setup but get confused about what to do there.....

    Thanks

when I boot it up i get the compaq computer setup utilities with menu options of: Main, storage, security, and advanced.....

under storage I get: Diskette drives, IDE devices, and Boot order

Under Diskette drives I get: Floppy Diskette A: 3.5....... and floppy diskette B: not installed

Under IDE devices everything is enabled

Is this not the right area I should be looking at???? I cannot find anything about the hard drives......is this not the BIOS area???

If I'm not in the right area I willl need to know what I need to do to get there....

Thanks for your help with this

Just to clarify: this drive has two partitions? Recovery and main?

You can see the recovery partition but not the main?

If so you can see the hard drive but just not the partition that you want?

    Is this correct?

yes....I can see the recovery drive when I look at "My computer"....I really want the other portion of the drive.

Is there any hope to find that part of it?

Look in Disk Management and see how it is broken down.

Right click My Computer then click Manage then Disk Management.

when I right click "my computer" I get options to: open, explore, find, map network drive, disconnect network drive, create shortcut, rename, properties.

I don't see "manage" or "disk management"

any other options I can do?

    What is the operating system?

    Try start Run... diskmgmt.msc

If you are not using XP and the drive came from an XP computer then the file system might not be recognized. FAT cannot read NTFS. Just a possibility.
