Thanks so far again!
How would i install or update my new BIOS, from the link you have given me?
Thanks so far again!
First off try the Live Update on the bottom of this page:
http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?f...=1&prod_no=574
Otherwise within the download is a "Read Me" file with the instructions.
The first thing I would do is remove the motherboard to make 200% sure there are no extra standoffs screwed into the case. If there is one (or more) then sadly, the first time you powered up your PC, fatal voltages might have been shorted to sensitive devices, such as the CPU, RAM, components on the motherboard, and anything plugged into the motherboard! Not good, to say the least. Now that is the extreme case, but it happens, too frequently.
Since you have to pull the board, I might recommend you place the board on a hard, non-conductive surface, such as a wood cutting board and connect the monitor (use the on-board graphics, if your motherboard supports it), 1 stick of RAM, a properly mounted CPU and HSF assembly, and the PSU. Then plug in the PSU and power up the Computer.
You should see the boot process start on your monitor - it will hang when it can not find any boot drive but that is okay, as it tells you your motherboard, CPU, 1 stick of RAM, and the PSU are probably fine. If fine, you can remount the motherboard in the case, ensuring the only standoffs in the case correspond to a motherboard mounting hole. This time, you can add the rest of your RAM, 1 HD, and your optical drive. Then see what happens when you boot.
It is worrisome that you did not use some sort of TIM. CPUs and motherboards are designed to protect themselves if there is an abnormal event. But they cannot protect themselves against extreme events, such as a shorted motherboard, or improperly mounted CPU and HSF assembly. With no TIM, heat can not effectively be carried away from the CPU. Typical overheating occurs over several seconds or even minutes, and the CPU and BIOS can monitor temperatures and have time to react before reaching critical thresholds. With no TIM, the CPU can overheat almost instantly, before the BIOS even knows something is wrong.
Did you ensure you took the necessary ESD precautions?
What are you using for instructions to assemble this computer?
Oops. Sorry. I somehow missed the 2nd page of this thread and missed:
Some of what I said in my previous post is still pertinent, so I will leave it.When takin out mjy old cpu i bent some of the pins and 1 snapped off. I cannot put it back in.
i have now got my old 1.8 processor in with TIM and my screen is still black.
What else can i do?
There was nothing under my motherboard and i tried taking all the parts out but nothing happened. I have to have a seperate graphics card for my motherboard.
My screen still remains black!
Please help.
What else is there to try?
Does the CPU fan spin? Do you feel any heat coming off of it?
Are you sure the case speaker is hooked up?
Try starting with no RAM installed and see if it beeps.
The cpu fan spins
and no i only feel the coll fan on coming off. Is that right?
what is the case speaker?
I have the green lead from my monitor into graphics card which is my sound.
What else could it be?
without my RAM still, no beeps and a blank screen.
?
There should be a small speaker inside your case. Not what you hear sound through. It just beeps.
When all is well it usually beeps once when you start a computer. When all is not well it beeps a code that can tell you what is wrong. With no RAM it should beep constantly. Assuming that it is working.
Do you ever remember the computer beeping when it worked ok?
Anyway the CPU should at least get warm.
Does this CPU work on another computer?
At some point if the CPU is known to be good and the RAM is known to be good we have to suspect that the motherboard is shot.![]()
