and if i was to keep my 2.4Ghz AMD Athlon 64 socket 754, what power supply would be best? A 500w? And would it then work?
    Thanks for help so far

    Support:

    BIOS:

    http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?f...=1&prod_no=574

Can you boot with your old CPU?

    Again you need thermal compound!

If you can then load the latest BIOS. If you need help on how to do that please ask.

The BIOS updates cover newer CPU's and that might be the main problem.

There is also a chance that powering it up without thermal compound burnt out the CPU.

As to a PSU 400-500 Watts is a good size for your system.

If one snapped off did you remove it from the slot?

The first step in updating the BIOS is to get the computer to start.

Unless you can do this there is little else you can do.

In other words you need a CPU that works and is compatible with your current BIOS.

Could i put my hardrive into another computer, install it on there, and then put my hard drive back into my computer?
And could anyone find me a 1.8Ghz to buy? Cheap!

If you need data off of your hard drive you can put it into another computer and extract it.

Hard drives have nothing to do with a computer starting.

BIOS is the Basic In Out System that runs off the hardware on your motherboard.

If this system cannot start there is nothing beyond it. Hard drives are only accessed after the BIOS starts.

As to finding a CPU putting your question into a Google search would be the best first step.

Sorry I am out the door as they say but open Google and Search:

    AMD 1.8ghz for example:
