Hmmm, converting an existing setup to RAID1 Mirror is not hard, but converting a system to RAID0 Striped is. Adding a RAID of either kind is not hard, but takes more hardware. My point is setting up a RAID during the initial install is easier, cheaper, and safer (in terms of potential data loss). Of course, budget restraints often force us spend more later down the road.
