    Sub mod- Worklog

Work has started on the sub, this will be an up-to date worklog of the project.

1st off, i removed all the components:

The side was marked out where I wanted to cut:

    26/01/08
I started to cut the shapes. Couldn't borrow a jigsaw so i had to use my drill to chain drill the shape and then file to the line.

The following picture shows how this progressed through the stages with 1 part filed and the other just chain-drilled:

This shows the 1st 4 shapes cut out (4th one not completely filed) to the left of the picture: G-Clamp, made by me from a block of mild steel and a bar of mild steel (sorry, had to mention that )

    And halfway done:

    New update- 27/1/08
    The side is now finished:

I then cut the perspex with a tennon saw:

This is how it fits in: (I must admit, it was a bit of gues work where to cut but it wasnt fatal because I had lots of play and could mount the perspex vertically or horizontally)

    Cover removed from theperspex:

It is then given a "frosted" effect:

The transformer had to be moved from its original place in order to fit in with the PCB being mounted horizontally

    Thanks

The outer part of the inner circle could do with a tidy up but apart from that im not disapointed with it...

Im now looking to get some feet (either metalic silver or blue). If i was still working in the workshop in college, I would have made myself some alluminium ones on the lathe but i finished in there 2 weeks ago so i will have to find some on the net

Also, I think I will be using 2 sets of cold cathodes (blue for the bottom and green for the top, it looks quite effective)

Still trying to decide on what colour i want it though.. whatever i chose, i'm goint to paint the little speakers to match. Any ideas for the colour? and what type of paint to use?

I also have to widen the hole i made at the back for the volume control so the knob fits better and is not as lose. Also the hole for the I/O soket needs widening so the plug fits in.

Please feel free to give your opinions/ideas as they will most probably be better than mine! (especially painting ones but please, keep them simple.... i'm no artist!)

    Mike

This could be another one of those things where I start off small then end up doing something big!! (well, bigger than what i had planned!)

I'm now thinking about spraying my monitor, mouse and possibly keyboard to match!!

also note: matching plug for the speakers

Going to do my monitor in the same colours some time as well...

I wired the sub up bafore to check it still works and i turned it on and got nothing!! Tested the fuse... fine

checked ALL connections that i had cut previously and re-connected, everything seemed fine.... The switch on the speaker was slightly stiff but seemed to click on and off... I took the cover off and tried the switch... it worked! Thank god for that! Case is back on now and all is fine

    A question:
I have this paper 'stencil' of a flame design i want sprayed on the top, any ideas how i could get it on?

I was thinking about just spraying the paper ans sticking it on the top with glue.... probably not the best method... any ideas? Here is a picture:

The speaker on the right of the bottom pic in my last post looks awful! (the silver anyway) just looking at it, it does look a bit dodgey but not as bad as it does on the picture!
