The stencil should be a "negative". In other words the white should be cut out of a rectangular page.

Then with some contact adhesive (or even start with a contact sheet) temporarily attach it and spray.

    Does that make sense?

Yes i understand that.... I thaught about spraying the top silver, positioning the stencil then re-spraying in blue- leaving a blue background and silver flame.

Masking tape does not affect the paint, there must be some kind of temporary adhesivei could use, then just remove it?

I cant really be bothered cutting another one out! plus, im no good with a craft knife, i did that with scisors.

shame i dont have one of those "stikka" machines that cut shapes out of well... a sticky sheet

You can get spray adhesives at art stores.

This stuff is not permanent and I'd think if you are using an enamel paint it should clean up ok.

hmmmm, i found some adhesive sticky back plastic, I have just cut the shape out of that... Before I paint I will have to sand paper the side and enlarge the hole I made for the plug to go into.

Update within the next week (hopefully)

Ive sprayed my monitor and sub blue (I have now run out of blue paint!) I am going to spray the silver part of my monitor probably a little later on and the flames possibly tomorow.

I will post pictures as and when i get them

    Not impressed!!!!

Sprayed the monitor and sub outside, a sheet of newspaper stuck to the monitor and left white bits all over it!! going to have to re-spray because it looks awful!

and i put the mask on for the flames, sprayed them but when i took it off, it pulled up the blue paint revealing messy bits of silver (i sprayed it silver on top first then thatght "what am i doing?" so i waited for it to dry and sprayed it blue.... obviously i didnt leave the blue long enough to dry so i need to make another template now!

    anyway.... pictures as promised:

    A bad case of "ooops!"

well.... a bit of a mess.

I don't know if it is bad.

Sort of fits the "retro decay" style.

I don't think that is the proper term but you know what I mean?

If you are on about the sub- I think it looks terrible

If you are on about the monitor.... as above
