New mod on the way ;)

Not a PC, but a logitech X-230 sub woofer

I have had a few small ideas at the moment......

    here is the sub:

Sub with mesh and black ring removed:

    Inside:

    Rear:

    Components:

Coincidence?... the sub fits PERFECTLY into the cut-out of my pc!! (there is usually frosted perspex in its place hiding the messy cables)

It would also give an awfull sounds due to the metal frame and incorrect volume (as in space, not sound) would also probably screw the PC because of the strong magnetic shielding.

Anyway, Im now thinking of re-making a enclosure for it aproximatly the same size, just a few things re-positioned... I would keep the logitech logo/hole thing and add a perspex window somewhere with a few lights.... possibly have the sub set back a little with LED's shining down on it from 4 directions then have the mesh flush with the enclosure..... as it is normally.... The advantage being- nice blue lights

well, at the moment im saving for my 1st car, im hoping to have around £2k by september. My money goes up then so i can afford to pay the insurance off in 9 monthly installments. I know this mod would probably be fairly cheap, but all the assignments from college are taking up a lot of time (as well as the NVQ Level 2 folder work)

At the moment, the sub is in bits on my desk because theres no point re- soldering the transformer and speaker back together if im planning on removing it at a later date.

When i get my car (most probably a clio) im installing my cd/dvd player in it (which is currently rigged up to a computers power supply and 4x hi-fi speakers) and im replacing that mirror in the passenger side with a 7" screen (buying a normal screen, removing the case, cutting up the sun visor, mounting the screen, tidying it up and wiring it to the cd/dvd player) this will probably be done before the sub mod

Just out of interest, do you think a 7" screen would fit in the passengers sun-visor?

After saying all that, I might actually start something on the sub pretty soon... i'll have to wait and see.

Right, all previous ideas for the sub have been scrapped..... im now planning to move the volume/socket to the bottom (horizontally), fill the gap where the controls USED to be (preferably something black. or perhaps another window) and do this to the side:

I will then mount a perspex window (somehow.... only just thaught about getting it in! il have to do it in 2 sections) and add either bright blue LED's in the corners pointing towards the center or a fer CCFL's (swaying towards LED's at the moment)

The speaker will stay where it is, I will find another home for the transformer as it will not fit in its place with the PCB mounted at the bottom horizontally.

Work should begin as soon as i find the perspex!!!!

UPDATE (24/1/08)- Couldnt find the perspex, remembered it was used for a case for my in-car cd player (which is set up in my room with hi-fi speakers connected )

Found a few scraps, half the amount i needed.... anyway, just baught 2 A4 sheets off ebay (3mm thick) for about £6 including postage. to remove the wood on the sub, im goind to use the old drill and file technique..... unless the neibour has a jigsaw

Just wondering, if the perspex is just bolted down, will it "rattle"? and if its glued, will there have to be a tight seal or will it be ok? Dont want to affect the sound quality of it if possible
