Overclocking?

Overclocking?
Hello,
I recently just made my own computer (with the help of DAL) and I'm wondering should I overclock? My motherboard is a Striker Extreme. My CPU is a Q6600. I'm a bit new to the whole overclocking concept.
Thankyou.

Depends on what you are after.
First off I would check your current temperatures.
CoreTemp is good.
Overclocking produces heat. A Q6600 is hot to start with. I personally would not overclock one without liquid cooling. Just my opinion.
If you just want numbers and you have the time to play around go for it.
Try different settings. You can alter the CPU multiplier or you can alter the FSB.
You can also include the RAM in the equations.
Is it risky? Yes.
RAM maybe more vulnerable than the CPU.
I'd say if you were satisfied with the way the machine is handling the best games etc. then leave it alone.
If you are dis-satisfied and or just want to do numbers testing and or competition then go for it.
That motherboard was meant to be overclocked. I am sure you will find tutorials on that board specifically vis Google: "Striker Extreme Overclock".
Temperature is the big issue. As you overclock you raise the voltage which raises the heat. Again some RAM is very sensitive to voltage.
The two best tools to keep an eye on things are CoreTemp and Prime95 aka Torture Test.

I guess I'll leave it then. My computer is running well atm.
