    It should all be fine.

Assuming the Host computer is formatted NTFS.

Programs will not transfer without reinstalling but data and files should be fine.

Again assuming XP see this page if you get any Access Denied errors:

actually some programs will transfer to. I took an hard drive out of an old dell laptop with windows 98 set it up as a slave and put it in my newer model HP laptop with windows xp, and not only can i access all the files but run all the programs off of it. really nice especially since theres a nice texas holdem poker game on it. and if all dont work out and windows dont recognize the files, put linux up on your second PC on a partition, it will read anything on any hard drive, formatted ntfs or not. gotta love linux.

Jephree's comment was really referring to the modern programs that most of us are running. DOS-based or basic Win95/98 applications (usually old games) that don't use registry entries and run from a single application directory often don't care if you're running them from a hard disk that used to be in another PC, a floppy disk or even a CD. But, in most cases, when people talk about moving a hard disk and using the programs, they're talking about Microsoft Word, Norton Anti-Virus, etc., which aren't portable and are tied into the original Windows installation through the registry.
