There are a few ideas in this thread:

Personally (although I've never worked on laptops) I just keep the work space as free as possible of any ESD factors. Wood floors > wood bench > usually barefoot. No AC.
If I feel like taking more precautions like when working directly on motherboards I sometimes use a metal dog leash clipped to some metal frame and wrapped around my wrist.
But if you get a wrist strap just hook it up to any metal frame so that it grounds you. It doesn't need to be connected to the computer itself.
Thanks for the link Jephree. 1 last question will I need to purchase any sata cables to connect or does it already have everything ready for installation?
Everything should be in there.
Most laptops don't have cables.
The pins on the back of the drive fit directly into the port in the laptop bay.
I have just installed it in my laptop and it shows up in BIOS and EVEREST and Device manager but it doesn't show up under my computer. What could be the problem?
You need to format it.
Right click it in the Device manager and Format...
I was kind of in a panic and did not think clearly thanks for helping. Forgot about disk management.
Me too. I called it the Device manager.![]()
