I would second the incompatibility likelihood.

Some brands don't play well together.

Sorry for such a late reply - i was at work lastnight and my internet connection threw a wobbler today.

The original RAM is Acer components. The new one is PNY. Crazy that they shouldn't like each other.

Mmm, i'm pretty sure now, you seem to have what i was having most likely ram compatiblilty was happening to me a few weeks ago.

Try and see if you can return that ram. And buy a recomended from www.crucial.com (using that test)

yeah, thanks for the advice, i got the RAM back to the shop, found they weren;t the cheapest too. I've just ordered some new RAM and to prevent having compatibility issues again, i'm not gonna use my old stuff, just bought 2x1GB chips instead!!
