Need Help Buying a Graphics Card

Re: Need Help Buying a Graphics Card
Many suggest the latest BIOS is required for quad core CPU's.
Someone says there is a 1308 but I only see a 1305 at ASUS:

Do you know your version?
I think this should be a priority assuming you can run in the BIOS with stability.
Also verify the RAM voltage is 1.9 Volts.

The ram was already set at 1.9 V Yea, I saw that one about leaving the battery out. Last night I got to BIOS. With 1 stick of RAM out, I"m downloading UBUNTU now.
-
If the BIOS is stable I would still update it to the latest.
-
Then again I need a Floppy Drive
Should have a floppy today)
-
I would not attempt to install an OS (ubuntu or any) until the BIOS is updated.
Unless you feel that you can consistently run a normal POST.
-
mm, well i'll remove the battery for a while I'll get back to you when I got the Floppy.
-
The BIOS update instructions are in your manual.
In the online version they start on page 74.
There are a couple of options. I prefer the boot floppy method but you can also update from the EZ Flash utility.
Anyway read the options and know the precess before you start.

I'm quite confident that I can boot to BIOS, I was getting 2 problems, DET DRAM
and VGA BIOS
DET DRAM with 1 ram in there I don't seem to get that anymore
VGA BIOS with the screen reset I can get past that.

While you are making floppies make one for MemTest:
http://www.memtest.org/
I hope the new BIOS removes any RAM issue but it is always good to test your RAM as well.

Yea, before I install the OS I'm going to get the floppy for BIOS and I already have memtest on CD.
If the ram is faulty i'll just have to return it
