    Gaming,Proccessor Socket, and others

I will attempt to make a budget gaming PC but theres a few things id like to ask.

1.I have a socket A Processor (AMD ATHLON XP) it seems there are no longer any Socket A motherboards anymore. Can i use the Sockets A one wiht a Socket AM2.

    2. The Motherboard i wish to purchase has 128mb bu ilt in shared video memory. Is this ok for now(Not looking to play any WoW)

    3. Theres this power supply (500 watts) thats 24.99 . I heard that real power supply's that are 300+ takes atleast 30$ to make is this one a cheapo?

    4. Ok i want to do gaming on this AMD Sempron 3000 PRocessor but is has 128kb L2 Cache. Will thisdo?

    1) Can you use a Socket A CPU on a AM2 motherboard: No.

    2) Integrated graphics are not capable of any high-end gaming. What games do you want to play? What is the make and model of the motherboard?

    3) Cheap PSU's are not a good idea. For 500W I'd expect to pay between $50 to $100 US.

    4) Is this a new CPU you are getting? An AM2?

    ..........

Most games list minimum requirements. I would look up some that you want to play and see what their minimums are.

^I Thought this one has 128mb video memory but it has 256.

The first one you link is a much better board. It is an AMD board. The second is an Intel board. You cannot use AMD processors on Intel boards nor vice versa.

In general I prefer Intel boards. Just not that one.

That Intel board, even if you upgrade to PCI_E graphics, is limited to X4 rather than X16.

I would list what parts you have already that you want to keep. That would help us looking at motherboards.

Also again if you know certain games you want to play please list them so we can look up the minimum requirements.

    What is your budget?

I like Newegg's filter system for comparisons such as:

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...8&name=LGA+775

You can filter the price etc.

Back on your other site: Micro Center: this is a nice mid-range board:

I Kinda like this one because i can reuse my memory

    Mobo

thing is Im trying to purchase a Motherboard to where i can reuse my Old Ram(DDR400) and not buy any DDR2.

    Only things I need are.
    Motherboard
Since you said onboard video memory arent capable of high end gaming i guess a graphics card.
    Power Supply.
    and Processor

By the way i received a catalog from Tiger Direct and it had a Geforce 7300 Gt 512MB for 79.99 . I thought this was really cheap for something thats 512mb and for a graphics card. Is this any good?

I Did my totals before and I Could get everything i needed for around 200$ But i didnt know onboard video memory are not capable of gaming. So maybe i can bumb it up to about 300$.

That looks like a decent board. It takes AGP 4X/8X graphics cards such as:

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...%2475+-+%24100

Also a look at Power Supplies:

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...ame=451+-+500W

    Or lower prices:

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...ame=451+-+500W

    Or a little less Wattage:

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...ame=401+-+450W

400 > 450 Watts should be fine for you.

If your case is Micro ATX you will need a Micro ATX PSU. The motherboard you chose is Micro ATX.

These are three Processors that are very solid performers at a good price:

Hey thanks i just built my new PC and it seems to work fine here are the details.

    Motherboard

It can overclock and stuff and has 16x pci .

    And Sempron 3000+ Proccessor .

Also i have a lil question.

The case i bought has a

120MM fan in it. I cant figure how to plug it . Heres an example

    example

this is not my fan but take a look at the cords. I tried to plug one of the cords in my power supply to the fan and it wouldnt go in . The 3rd pin from the left seems to be out of place to the 2nd to left pin on mine. Is it broken?

Also i say something in bios that gave a list of ram mhz like this

    100
    133
    166
ect ill list more if i can

can these let me use ram stick that are these mhz? Because i have a 256mb 133(i think) but the m/b i have only supports 333/400

    Is called dram frequency

The fans are usually 3 pin connections and generally smaller than the standard 4 pin "molex". There should be an adapter between the two. Such an adapter is usually provided with the fan but can be purchased at any electronics store.

I'd have to read the manual regarding the RAM. Are you sure about those numbers? In general those numbers apply to IDE/ATA frequencies.

Supports Ultra DMA 33/66/100/133 IDE devices, data transfer rate up to 133MB/s
Yet you also have SATA which is faster.

You RAM should be DDR400 which runs at 800MHz FSB which on that board can be overclocked.

Maximizes your system performance by selecting from these overclocking options
    (1) Flexible CPU/DDR core voltage adjustments
    (2) Adjustable FSB/DDR ratio
