What is the exact Dell model?
Dimension 1234? etc.
You probably do need a graphics card (currently you just have an on-board Intel chip) and more RAM but what happens when you try to play now?
-
Dell 4700C

Computer:

Manual:

That machine has a PCI_E x16 slot so that is the type of card you want.
I'd also have at least 1GB RAM if not 2GB for high end games. The best (in my opinion) approach here is remove your current RAM and get a package of 2 x 1GB DDR2 RAM.
-
What would you suggest for me i'm not a major gamer i just have a few i play ie. (COD, Half-Life 2)
-
PCI_E x16 cards run from $100 to $1,000 US.
What is your budget?
The highest end cards most likely require more power than that Dell has so realistically you are saying $100? $200? $300?
You can get a 2 x 1GB pair of DDR2 RAM for @ $125
-
i don't want to have to upgrade my power supply but, i just want to play without lag and w/ good graphics
total ammount of money i would like to spend is nothing ha, but i know its not gonna happen so probly around 300

As to RAM here is a Newegg filtered list. They are a very good site as far as pricing with their filters.

Also as to RAM try this Crucial scanner and see what it says:

As to PCI_E graphics cards again I use Newegg to filter your price range:

Your system configuration
512MB Total
512MB current memory
256MB 256MB

Our suggested upgrades
2GB Total
512MB current memory removed *
2GB new memory added
*1GB *1GB
US $93.98

US $46.99 ea.

For $100 you can quadruple your RAM. Pretty good to my eyes!
If you find a PCI_E card at Newegg you can probably get the Crucial RAM there as well thus saving to only one shipping charge.
