overclocked 3400 newcastle 2.4
Hi, first time I have tried this. So I have put up the fsb from 200 to 205. This gave me this readout on Belarc Adviser : 2.47 gigahertz AMD Athlon 64 but in properties it is down as running at 1.85 ghz. ?.
The fsb apparently goes up tp 215 in the bios, but as I was trying this for the first time, I decided to go up in small increments. The memory however was running at 166. Is that the correct figure, do you think.
HD 200 GIG
CPU ; SOCKET 754 AMD ATHLON 64 3000 + Processor
MB : Asus K8V SE Delux
Graphics : ATI Radion X1950 Pro – 7-6 drivers
RAM : 3 Gig 3200 x 400 MHZ
Hyper 580 PSU
Win XP Home
On board sound
Cheers

If you are referring to Windows Properties via My Computer then it usually shows both readings: the stock and the overclock.
See what CPU_Z says.
Unless your CPU FSB is "Linked" to the RAM the RAM should not change unless you change it separately. Most CPU FSB cannot be changed when "Linked" to the RAM.

I have the cpu-z results, but do not know how to get a copy of them on the forum for you to peruse. Is there a particular program I have to use for that ?.

If you open the "About" tab and click on "Registers Dump" (.txt) under Tools this will create the text data.
However we don't need to see all that. On the CPU tab what are your clocks?

Hi, This is what I did and I would appreciate your comments , please. As my fsb was 200mhz I put that up to 205 and ran the Go- Orthos and cpu-z programs. After 4 pass results with Go- Orthos, here was the cpu – z results.
Mem freq 102.5
Command rate 2T
HT Link 820.01
Bus speed 205
I then decided to up the fsb by 2 noches to 207. That ran ok.
Then I put it up the fsb up to 210.
Speed 2520.3 mhz
Mult x 12
HT Link 840.1
Mem freq 105 mhz
Fsb dram 24
After running the Go- Orthos for a few minutes it all went Red and stopped. I have put the fsb back to 107. As you can see I am not too well up on overclocking. Look forward to hearing from any one.
Cheers

You are doing basically what you should. Apparently your limit is @ FSB 205.
If you are unstable above that then that is about as high as you can go.
You can lower the multiplier to 11 or 10 then try to up the bus.
You can also unlink the RAM speed from the FSB and perhaps go faster.
Otherwise overclocking is trial and error step by step. When you reach an unstable level that's pretty much letting you know you've gone too far.
If you ever go way too far you can always reset the CMOS if you ever loose your BOOT.

Thanks for that Jephree. I will give it a go.
Cheers.
