The switch was not off. So I guess you might be right. I am having the motherboard and ram stick tested. I will keep my fingers crossed that the motherboard is okay and put it down to expeience. Certainly its one to remember! I will let you all know how I get on with the tests, but my gut tells me you are right. Please the the motherboard be ok!!!!

Lucky that was all it was - could have been much worse.

Too right I was lucky! Thats one mistake I wont make again. All thats left now is a new hard drive and its finally finished. Once again thanks for all that great advice!
