Laptop - Ubuntu
Hi... I have a spare laptop at home - its buggered. The DVD drive doesn't work - just not recognised. And the hard drive is supposedly full - but i know its not. It hardly has anything on it so it can't be. I think either the hard drive is knackered and needs to be reformatted/replaced - or the MB has had it...
Its not being used so I want to use it to test out Ubuntu on a working machine before installing it on my PC. However, as the DVD drive doesn't work my plan is to take out the hard drive and (using a USB lead which i have borrowed) plug it into my PC and install UBUNTU like that - but I'm not sure whether it will work.
Is there anything i need to pay special attention to? Are there any problems you guys would expect me to come across and could maybe give me warning?
Thanks

I don't see why it would not work as long as the drive is mechanically functioning.
If you leave the Windows Boot Sector on the drive you may have to enter your BIOS Setup in order to boot ubuntu.

I agree with jephree you shouldn't come across any difficulties as long as your drive is functioning
Just be careful you dont damage the drive.
External Enclosure's are good to connect hard drives up to other PC's and they are very cheap and the best way to go in my opinon

An enclosure is the only way to go. I just got one for $21.00. Then you have a portable HD.
