Talking Overclocking what are the pros and cons

I have just , well a couple of months ago built my PC and would want to start gaming and would like some advice as to the expeidency of overclocking and if doing so would need to add extra cooling. I am running INTEL(R)Core 2 E6600 @ 2.40 GHz with the standard cooling fan supplied by INTEL. The case is a Thermaltake Soprano with a intake fan 120x120x25mm 1400rpm fan and the same for the rear exhaust. Or would you advise leaving well alone. If you advise it would be OK how do I go about it.

    Is this the motherboard?

    GIGABYTE GA-965P-DS3

As to extra cooling the next step would be going liquid. Are you up for that?

As to performance I'd recommend downloading the free version of 3DMark06 and seeing what your results are. It is a large download.

Thanks japhree I have down loaded Futuremark and have just run it, I was thinking if I were to have water cooling I might just purchase a Thermaltake case with the water cooling already installed

    What was your 3DMark score?

That motherboard is not very user friendly as to overclocking but the settings in the BIOS are listed under:

    MB Intelligent Tweaker(M.I.T.)

As to your original question: Pros: perhaps performance enhancement. Cons: Risk of hardware damage.

If you are into it it takes some time to adjust and readjust and this and that. Most CPU's will protect themselves by shutting down and if you set unbootable settings you can always clear the CMOS and start from scratch.
