I'd suggest putting your old graphics card back and insert one stick of 1GB RAM.

Then Clean Install XP. Add SP2. Load the motherboard drivers.

If the install goes well add the second 1GB RAM in an alterating slot and see if that works OK.

I would leave the old 512 out of the computer completely. It will add nothing and probably reduce the functionality of the new RAM.

Then if all is well try to install the new graphics card. After you do this you will need to install the card's drivers.
